Tips From Your Ocean Springs, MS Dentist

You’ve heard it over and over - flossing your teeth is important. But it’s especially important when you have braces! Dr. McCabe and his dedicated team understand that flossing with braces can be difficult, so that’s why we’ve prepared these helpful tips for our Ocean Springs, MS patients to help make the job a little easier.

Use The Right Tools

Flossing with braces is much easier when you use the proper tools! A floss threader will help you to get in between the brackets and wires of your braces, and allow you work the floss in between each tooth. A water flosser is a handy tool that sends a steady stream of water throughout your teeth and gums. You can use one with a tapered tip that is specially formulated for braces patients. Keep in mind, though, that while a water flosser is very effective for cleaning, it doesn’t replace actual flossing because it can’t get in between your teeth.

Clean With A Proxy Brush

This special little brush is a must for braces patients! A proxy brush will remove debris and food particles from behind your wires. Just run the brush up between the braces to clean your teeth throughout the day after meals.

Prepare A Flossing Kit

At Tyler McCabe dentistry, we recommend that our patients keep an oral health kit on hand which includes such items as waxed floss, a floss threader, a travel toothbrush, and toothpaste. After meals, it’s important to clean your teeth to remove any food particles that may be stuck in your braces, so having a kit that you keep in your bag, backpack, or car, makes the job much more convenient.

Schedule Regular Dental Cleanings

When you undergo orthodontic treatment, your teeth are more susceptible to decay without the maintenance of a regular dental care routine, so be sure to keep up with visits to your Ocean Springs, MS dentist. Have your teeth professionally cleaned every few months during your braces treatment.
