At Tyler McCabe, DMD general & cosmetic dentistry, we want our patients to have healthy and beautiful smiles that they are proud to show off. A smile free of stains and discolorations is a great start! Unfortunately, many of the foods & drinks we consume, paired with acids that break down the enamel, make our teeth susceptible to staining and discoloration.

Coffee, Tea & Cola

Many people rely on the caffeine boosts they get from coffees, teas, and colas, but these beverages are some of the worst when it comes to tooth staining. The tannins found in coffee and tea, and the dyes and acids found in colas, cause discoloration on the teeth.

Citrus Fruits

Underneath the enamel of your teeth is dentin - a yellow-ish tissue composed of calcium and phosphate crystals. The high acidity found in citrus fruits - including lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits and others - breaks down the enamel and leaves the yellow-tinted dentin exposed.

Berries & Fruit Juices

Though berries and their juices offer many health benefits including high vitamin and antioxidant content, their bright colors, unfortunately, are a tooth-staining culprit.

Curry

The deep pigmentation of curry, while providing the unmistakable flavor showcased in many vibrant and delicious dishes, also causes deep coloring of the teeth.

Soy Sauce & Balsamic Vinegar

Soy sauce and balsamic vinegar are two classic staples providing many dishes with exquisite, savory flavor, but the dark coloring of both of these liquids can cause staining.

Tomato-based Products

Tomatoes are highly saturated with bright color. This, paired with the acidity found in them, can wreak havoc on your pearly white teeth.
